ACTOR TRAINING in the SUZUKI METHOD and the VIEWPOINTS St Idiot Collective (SIC) is pleased to welcome back Director/Writer and SITI Company member J.Ed Araiza who will lead a weekend workshop in SUZUKI training and VIEWPOINTS. Both classes will include a basic introduction to the work and theories and accelerate depending on the experience of participants. Each session will begin with SUZUKI class followed by a short break and VIEWPOINTS. SUZUKI METHOD Developed by internationally acclaimed director, Tadashi Suzuki and the Suzuki Company of Toga, the Suzuki Actor Training Method's principal concern is with restoring the wholeness of the human body and voice to the theatrical context and uncovering the actor's innate expressive abilities. A rigorous physical discipline drawn from such diverse influences as ballet, traditional Japanese and Greek theater and martial arts, the training seeks to heighten the actor's emotional and physical power and commitment to each moment on the stage. Attention is on the lower body and a vocabulary of footwork, sharpening the actor's breath control, Vocal Strength, focus and concentration. VIEWPOINTS The Viewpoints is a technique of improvisation that grew out of the post-modern dance world. It was first articulated by choreographer Mary Overlie who broke down the two dominant issues performers deal with - time and space - into six categories, the Six Viewpoints. Since that time the SITI Company has expanded her original notions and adapted them for actors. The Viewpoints allows a group of actors to function together spontaneously and intuitively and to generate bold, theatrical work quickly. It develops flexibility, articulation, and strength in movement for the both individual and ensemble. Both training are physically challenging and rigorous. Applicants should come in good health and be prepared to work hard. Appropriate workout clothing is required, no loose, baggy clothes please. Suzuki training is in socks; Viewpoints will be in bare feet. SUZUKI/VIEWPOINTS Saturday and Sunday, July 1st and 2nd SUZUKI 12 noon to 1:50pm VIEWPOINTS 2:00 to 4:00pm COURSE FEES FULL SESSION $ 75 SUZUKI ONLY $ 50 VIEWPOINTS ONLY $ 50 Priority will be given to participants signing up for both trainings.
